# ROKLIM > ROKLIM is a standalone app for Windows and Mac that automates animated, word-by-word captions for DaVinci Resolve — the free version and Studio: subtitles from audio, subtitle layout, text animation, sound effects (SFX) and visual effects (VFX). It works from its own subtitles, a subtitle track or an SRT file and writes ordinary editable clips — one Text+ clip per word — so every word stays under Edit-page control. ROKLIM is not a DaVinci Resolve plugin and not a Fusion template pack. It runs next to Resolve and drives it through Resolve's scripting API. It makes word-by-word subtitles from the timeline audio on your computer (Layout → Create subtitles; OpenAI Whisper via whisper.cpp, the Balanced speech model — best timing in our tests — downloads once) — or use Resolve Studio's "Create Subtitles from Audio" or any SRT — then ROKLIM does the layout, animation, sound and effects. ## Modules - **Layout** — makes subtitles from the timeline audio if you need them, and turns subtitles (its own, a subtitle track or an SRT) into one Text+ clip per word, split into groups and rows that fit a zone of the frame you choose; each row gets the biggest size that fits. Colours the clips by row so the next modules know what to do. Change Font, Resize, Line gap, Word gap and Centre edit words already laid out. - **Premade layouts** — save a finished group (places, fonts, colours, the whole Fusion composition of every word including animation) and apply its look to any other group. - **Animations** (formerly Macro) — puts Fusion .setting animations on words by clip colour, by the word itself, or by hand; can fit long animations to short clips; edit them later right on the DaVinci viewer (Edit Animation). - **SFX** — places sound effects under words by clip colour or for particular words, timed to each word. - **VFX** — at every timeline marker of a chosen colour, places an adjustment clip with a Fusion macro (zoom, shake, flash…). ## Included presets and effects - **In the catalog now:** 31 animations for DaVinci Resolve (10 free, 21 Premium), 1 VFX effect, 2 premade layouts, 61 sound effects — counted from https://roklim.com/assets/catalog.json at every update. - **No Fusion needed** — ROKLIM puts the animations on the clips for you, and Edit Animation lets you drag an animation's path, keys and timing right on the DaVinci viewer (Windows and macOS 14+). You never have to open the Fusion page. - **Text animations** — Fusion `.setting` presets for words (slide, pop, blur, flicker, wobble…), applied by clip colour, by the word itself or by hand. Previews at https://roklim.com/animations — free ones download there too (also as `.ffx` for After Effects), premium ones inside ROKLIM. - **Styles for whole sentences** — Premade layouts: a finished look for a whole caption group (places, sizes, fonts, colours and animation), applied to any sentence in one click. - **Image animations** — the same animations work on image clips: logos, stickers, screenshots, photos. - **Sound effects** — the ROKLIM SFX pack (clicks, pops, whooshes, bass, hits), placed under words automatically: https://roklim.com/audio - **Video effects** — zooms, shakes, flashes and more on any video, through adjustment clips that VFX places at timeline markers. - Your own Fusion macros, sounds and saved styles work the same way. ROKLIM panels for After Effects and Premiere Pro exist as a beta, still in development, Windows only; the main product is for DaVinci Resolve. ## Requirements - Windows, or Mac (Apple silicon M1–M4 or Intel). Downloads: https://roklim.com/download (Mac: ?os=mac-arm64 or ?os=mac-x64). - DaVinci Resolve: the free version, or Studio 19.1 or newer (made for Resolve 21). Free Resolve: Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM, once each time you open Resolve. Studio: Preferences → System → General → External scripting using = Local. - A Text+ title in the Media Pool (Layout); an Adjustment Clip in the Media Pool (VFX). ## Pricing - Lifetime: $100, one payment, works offline after activation, all Premium content included. - Premium content = every Premium animation, Premade layout and VFX effect in the ROKLIM catalog. Previews are on the site; the files download only inside ROKLIM. Included in Lifetime, in the subscription and in the free trial. - Subscription: $40 per month, all modules, updates included, all Premium content, cancel anytime. - Free trial: 7 days, no credit card — enter an email at https://roklim.com/#trial, the key comes by email; every module and all Premium content; the 7 days start at activation; one trial per computer. - One license key works on up to 2 computers ("Deactivate this PC" in the app frees a slot). ## How it differs from caption plugins Template-based tools (Resolve's built-in animated subtitles, caption plugins such as Snap Captions or MagicSubtitles) apply a ready-made style to a caption track or title — fast, but going beyond the template is hard. ROKLIM lays out and animates every word as its own Text+ clip, adds sounds and effects, and installs no Fusion templates, so it does not hit Resolve's "You have reached a limitation" wall and does not break on a Resolve version bump. ROKLIM makes its own subtitles from the audio; Resolve Studio's transcription and tools like AutoSubs work with it too. ## Documentation and guides - [Documentation](https://roklim.com/docs/): overview of all modules - [Getting started](https://roklim.com/docs/getting-started/): requirements, Resolve settings, install, activation - [Changelog](https://roklim.com/changelog/): what changed in every ROKLIM version, newest first - [Layout](https://roklim.com/docs/layout/), [Premade layouts](https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/), [Animation](https://roklim.com/docs/animation/), [SFX](https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/), [VFX](https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) - [AI connector](https://roklim.com/docs/ai-connector/): your AI app (Claude Desktop, or claude.ai in the browser and on the phone — a free account works too) makes animated word-by-word subtitles in DaVinci Resolve through ROKLIM - [Troubleshooting](https://roklim.com/docs/troubleshooting/) - [Guide: animated word-by-word captions in DaVinci Resolve](https://roklim.com/guides/animated-word-by-word-captions-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: captions for TikTok, Reels and Shorts in DaVinci Resolve](https://roklim.com/guides/tiktok-reels-shorts-captions-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: sound effects on caption words](https://roklim.com/guides/sound-effects-for-captions-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: reuse a caption style](https://roklim.com/guides/reuse-caption-style-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: change the font, size or colour of many Text+ clips at once](https://roklim.com/guides/change-font-size-many-text-plus-clips-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: an alternative to Fusion caption templates](https://roklim.com/guides/alternative-to-fusion-caption-templates-davinci-resolve/) - [Guide: animate titles and lower thirds by clip colour](https://roklim.com/guides/animate-titles-lower-thirds-by-colour-davinci-resolve/) - [ROKLIM compared with other caption tools for DaVinci Resolve](https://roklim.com/compare/) - [A Snap Captions alternative](https://roklim.com/compare/snap-captions-alternative/), [a MagicSubtitles alternative](https://roklim.com/compare/magicsubtitles-alternative/), [AutoSubs and ROKLIM](https://roklim.com/compare/autosubs-and-roklim/) - [Everything above as one text file](https://roklim.com/llms-full.txt) ## Links - [Home page](https://roklim.com/): features, demo video, pricing, FAQ - [Demo video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o91ePQM2ZIQ) - [Animations: previews, free downloads](https://roklim.com/animations) - [Layouts: Premade layout previews (Premium, download inside ROKLIM)](https://roklim.com/layouts) - [VFX: effects for adjustment clips (Premium, download inside ROKLIM)](https://roklim.com/vfx) - [SFX pack](https://roklim.com/audio): play or download - [Affiliate program](https://roklim.com/affiliate): 20% on a lifetime payment and on each subscription renewal - [Start the free trial](https://roklim.com/#trial): 7 days, no card — the license key comes by email - [Download ROKLIM for Windows](https://roklim.com/download): always the latest installer (needs a license key to activate) ## Contact - Email: hello@roklim.com - Discord: https://discord.gg/FKvJxcmsuX - Made by Roman Klimov, Poland. --- # ROKLIM documentation URL: https://roklim.com/docs/ How to set up and use ROKLIM in DaVinci Resolve, free or Studio: subtitles from audio, Layout, Premade, Animation, SFX, VFX and common fixes. ROKLIM is a standalone app for Windows and Mac that works next to DaVinci Resolve — free or Studio. It turns your subtitles into word-by-word Text+ clips, lays them out in groups and rows, and then adds animation, sound effects and visual effects — each step driven by clip colours, words or timeline markers, so a whole video is done in minutes instead of hours. Getting startedRequirements, Resolve settings, install and activation. LayoutSubtitles → one Text+ clip per word, laid out in your zone. Premade layoutsSave a finished group and apply its look to any other. AnimationsFusion animations on words by colour, by word or by hand. SFXSounds under words, by colour or by the word itself. VFXEffects at timeline markers via adjustment clips. TroubleshootingWhat to check when something does not work. ## How the modules work together 1. Subtitles. Let ROKLIM make them from the audio (Layout → Create subtitles), or use a subtitle track — Resolve Studio's own transcription or an SRT file — and fix the text. 2. Layout reads the subtitles and places every word as its own Text+ clip, grouped and sized to fit the part of the frame you choose. It can also colour the clips by row, so the next modules know what to do with each word. 3. Animations (the module was called Macro before) puts Fusion .setting animations on the words — for example every orange word slides up, every lime word pops. 4. SFX puts sounds under the words — by clip colour or for particular words. 5. VFX adds effects at timeline markers: at every marker of a colour it places an adjustment clip with your macro. Every module works on its own too: Animation, SFX and VFX do not need a subtitle track, only Text+ clips or markers. ## Where things are in the app - The hub (main window) checks your Resolve setup, opens the modules, shows your license and installs updates. - Every module window has How to use at the top — a short guided tour of that window — and a hint on every field when you hover over it. Hints are in English, Spanish, Polish and Russian. - Profiles at the top of each window keep several complete setups, for example one per client or video format. > ROKLIM panels for After Effects and Premiere Pro exist as a beta. These docs cover DaVinci Resolve. --- # Getting started URL: https://roklim.com/docs/getting-started/ ROKLIM setup on Windows or Mac: DaVinci Resolve free or Studio, connecting ROKLIM to Resolve, a Text+ in the Media Pool, activation on 2 computers. ## Requirements - Windows or Mac (Apple silicon M1–M4, or Intel). The After Effects / Premiere Pro panels are a beta and Windows only. - DaVinci Resolve — the free version, or Studio 19.1 or newer; ROKLIM is made for Resolve 21. - A ROKLIM license: lifetime or a monthly subscription — or a 7-day free trial (https://roklim.com/#trial) without a card. See pricing (https://roklim.com/#pricing). ## 1. Let ROKLIM talk to Resolve Free DaVinci Resolve: in Resolve choose Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM — once each time you open Resolve. ROKLIM adds this menu item by itself when it starts. DaVinci Resolve Studio: open Preferences → System → General and set External scripting using to Local. Restart Resolve. (Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM works in Studio too.) This is what allows ROKLIM to drive Resolve through its scripting API. ROKLIM installs no Fusion templates and no plugins into Resolve. ## 2. Install and activate Get a license key: start the 7-day free trial (https://roklim.com/#trial) — enter your email, the key comes by email, no card — or buy (https://roklim.com/#pricing) and get the key at checkout. The 7 days start when you activate the key; one trial per computer. ### Windows 1. Download the installer — the latest version is always at roklim.com/download (https://roklim.com/download) — and run ROKLIM-Setup-….exe. 2. Windows may show "Windows protected your PC". That is SmartScreen: the installer is not yet signed by a known publisher. Click More info → Run anyway. 3. On first start ROKLIM asks for your license key. Paste it and press Activate. ### Mac 1. Download ROKLIM for your Mac: Apple silicon (M1–M4) (https://roklim.com/download?os=mac-arm64) or Intel (https://roklim.com/download?os=mac-x64). Not sure which? Apple menu → About This Mac: "Chip Apple M…" is Apple silicon, "Processor Intel" is Intel. 2. Open the downloaded ROKLIM-….dmg and drag ROKLIM into Applications. 3. Open ROKLIM from Applications. The first time, macOS says "ROKLIM" Not Opened — allow it once, as shown below. 4. ROKLIM asks for your license key. Paste it and press Activate. ### Why macOS says "ROKLIM" Not Opened macOS only opens apps from the internet without a question when Apple has checked them (notarization, part of Apple's paid developer program). ROKLIM is not notarized yet, so macOS cannot check it and stops the first start. Nothing is wrong with the file — it is the same app from the official ROKLIM release. You allow it once; after that ROKLIM opens like any other app. 1–2. In the "ROKLIM" Not Opened window press ?. The Mac User Guide opens — press Open Privacy & Security settings for me. 3–4. Press Done in the "ROKLIM" Not Opened window. In Privacy & Security, next to "ROKLIM" was blocked to protect your Mac, press Open Anyway and enter your Mac password. The button is there for about an hour after you tried to open ROKLIM — if it is gone, open ROKLIM once more. 5. macOS asks one more time: Open "ROKLIM"? — press Open Anyway. If nothing seems to happen, look for this window behind System Settings. 6. ROKLIM starts and asks for your license key — the key you got with your purchase (Lemon Squeezy email). Paste it and press Activate. One key works on up to 2 computers. To move ROKLIM to another PC, press Deactivate this PC in the hub first — that frees the slot. A lifetime license works offline after activation. ## 3. Check the setup in the hub Open Resolve with your project and timeline, then look at the setup line at the top of the ROKLIM hub. It checks everything ROKLIM needs and says what to fix: | Check | If it fails | |---|---| | DaVinci Resolve installed | Install DaVinci Resolve, or point ROKLIM at its fuscript (Windows: fuscript.exe in the Resolve folder). | | Resolve is running | Start Resolve and open your project. | | ROKLIM can talk to Resolve | Free Resolve: Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM. Studio: set External scripting to Local (step 1) and restart Resolve. | | Project and timeline open | Open the timeline you want to work on. | | Plain Latin project / timeline names | Layout calibration needs them; rename if Auto-measure complains. | | Subtitle track found | Only a note: Layout can also read an SRT or make subtitles from the audio. Animation, SFX and VFX need no subtitles. | ## 4. Three things to put in the Media Pool Once per project: - A Text+ title — Layout makes every word from it. In Resolve: Effects → Titles → Text+, drag it into the Media Pool. Keep its name Text+. - An Adjustment Clip — only for VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/). Effects → Adjustment Clip, drag it into the Media Pool. - A Fusion Composition — only for Graphics (Easy → VFX → Graphics). Effects → Fusion Composition, drag it into the Media Pool. ## 5. Your first video 1. Open Layout. Subtitles: press DaVinci Resolve Free → Create subtitles and ROKLIM makes them from the audio (the Balanced speech model downloads once, 181 MB) — or use a subtitle track (Resolve Studio can create one from the audio) or an SRT. 2. In Layout set the zone and the video tracks for the words, press RUN. See Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/). 3. Open Animations, give each clip colour an animation, press RUN. See Animations (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/). 4. Optional: SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) for sounds and VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) for effects at markers. Every window has How to use at the top: a short tour that walks through the fields in order. ## Updates On Windows, ROKLIM checks for updates when it starts and shows what is new. On Mac, download a new version from roklim.com/download (https://roklim.com/download) and replace the app in Applications — your settings and license stay. On both, the engines for DaVinci Resolve that your license covers are downloaded automatically. --- # Layout: subtitles into word-by-word Text+ clips URL: https://roklim.com/docs/layout/ Layout turns subtitles — a Resolve track, an SRT or its own from audio — into one Text+ clip per word, in groups and rows that fit your zone. Layout reads the words from subtitles — a subtitle track in DaVinci Resolve, an SRT file, or subtitles ROKLIM makes from the audio — and turns every word into its own Text+ clip on your video tracks. Words that are on screen together form a group; inside a group they fill rows; each row gets the biggest size that fits the part of the frame you allow. Because every word is a separate clip, you can fix a typo or a timing later and the layout stays. ## Before you press RUN - Subtitles with the text you want: a subtitle track, an SRT file, or ROKLIM’s own subtitles from audio (below). - A Text+ title is in the Media Pool (see Getting started (https://roklim.com/docs/getting-started/)). - The font is calibrated for this timeline (below). Once per font and timeline. ## The window, top to bottom ### Subtitle source Subtitle Track — the number of the subtitle track to read (1 is the first). or SRT file — read an .srt file instead: … picks one, ✕ goes back to the track. ### Subtitles from audio (DaVinci Resolve Free) The free DaVinci Resolve has no Create Subtitles from Audio, so ROKLIM makes the subtitles itself — on your computer, word by word. It works in Studio too. 1. Press DaVinci Resolve Free. 2. In Resolve mark the part with I and O — ROKLIM reads the marks by itself. No marks = the whole timeline. 3. Press Create subtitles. The first time, the speech model downloads (181 MB) — or get it beforehand with Download model; the button turns grey (Model ready) once it is there. Speech recognition is OpenAI Whisper (via whisper.cpp) with the Silero speech detector, all under the MIT license, running on your computer. ROKLIM renders the audio, recognizes the speech and sets the new SRT as the source — RUN works right away. The SRT also goes to the ROKLIM bin of the Media Pool, and the message shows where the first word starts. To fix words in Resolve, put the playhead there and drop the clip on a subtitle track; then clear the SRT field (✕) and set the track number. ### Text position zone: Top Tilt, Bottom Tilt, Left Pan, Right Pan The rectangle where the words may go, in pixels from the frame centre (right and up are positive). Every group starts at Top Tilt and must fit down to Bottom Tilt; a row may not be wider than Left Pan to Right Pan. A bigger zone means longer rows and bigger text. The block is folded: click TEXT POSITION ZONE to open or close it. Folded, it still shows its four values. > Tip: turn on the rulers in the DaVinci viewer and pull guides to where the text should begin and end — you see the zone right on the frame. ### Time range Only subtitles inside From – To are laid out. In Resolve press I at the start and O at the end of the part you want — ROKLIM reads the marks by itself and shows the times in From and To, and every RUN takes the marks as they are at that moment. One mark is enough (no In = from the start, no Out = to the end); no marks = the whole timeline. ### Mode and Text layout Mode sets what RUN does: only make Text+ clips from the subtitles, also split them into words, or split and lay the words out on the text tracks (the full job). Text layout sets how many rows a group of words takes: 1 row, 2 rows, 3 rows or Custom. Each choice keeps its own Fine settings (below) — pick one and its values fill in. Custom is your own setup. Change any choice under ⚙ Fine settings and press Save to … there. ### Clip colours After RUN, ROKLIM can colour the new clips so Animations (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/) and SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) can pick an animation or a sound by colour: - Line — by row number: row 1 gets the Line 1 colour, row 2 Line 2, row 3 and below Line 3. - Role — every group gets one key row, Big, and the rows around it are Context. Big is picked by position: the only row, the bottom row of two, the middle row of three, the one before last of four or more. ### ⚙ Fine settings Everything that shapes the groups is in its own window: text tracks, groups, rows, gaps, one-word rows and punctuation. The values (all but Text tracks, which belong to the project) belong to the Text layout chosen in the main window; Save to … keeps them in it. #### Text tracks The video tracks for the words, separated by commas. Word 1 of a group goes on the first track, word 2 on the second, and so on — so the number of tracks also caps the words per group. Use free tracks above your footage. #### Groups A new group starts when the group reaches Words/group or Max chars, after a pause longer than Group gap frames, or after a word ending with one of the Break on punct marks. A group shorter than Min words/grp or Min chars joins a neighbour — the previous group if it ends a sentence (End punct), otherwise the next one. #### Rows Inside a group, words fill a row until Max words/row or Max chars/row, or until the row no longer fits the zone. Max rows caps the rows; extra words move to a new group instead of getting smaller. Uniform size gives everything one size (rows that do not fit run off the edge instead of shrinking). Word gap and Line gap set the space between words and between rows. #### One-word rows A row with a single word is placed by Pan mode: *Random* — anywhere between Pan from and Pan to, which keeps single words from always sitting in the same spot; *Manual* — always at one Pan value. ### RUN Lays out the subtitles of the range with these settings. Progress and any problems appear right below. ## Text Settings: font, colour, calibration Open Text Settings to choose the font, style and colour of the words. Calibrate the font once per font and timeline. Press Auto-measure: ROKLIM renders every word of your subtitles in this font and remembers its real width, so words never overlap or drift apart. Before you press it, set the timeline playback resolution to Full. ROKLIM puts a Text+ from the Media Pool on a new track at the playhead for the measurement and removes the clip and the track afterwards; if the playhead is on a Text+ clip, it measures on that one and puts its word back. No Text+ in the Media Pool — it says so. Project and timeline names must use plain Latin letters. Apply keeps the font and style for RUN. It does not touch clips already on the timeline. ## Changing words that are already laid out These tools in Text Settings change clips that are already on the timeline, for the time range or the selected clips: - Change Font — switches the font and keeps every word in its place (sizes are fitted so the look stays the same). A plain font change without refitting is now built into DaVinci itself. - Update Existing — one or more of: - colour, anchor; - one size for everything, or Resize by an amount or a factor — rows re-flow and re-stack so nothing collides; - Line gap — the space between rows of every group; - Word gap — the space between words of every row; - Centre — centre each row of every group horizontally; - shift Pan and Tilt of all clips. Groups are always changed whole, so half a phrase never moves on its own. ## Save and reuse - Save as Default remembers the window for next time (including the chosen Text layout); Profiles keep several setups. - To reuse the *look* of a finished group — sizes, colours, animation — on other groups, use Premade layouts (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/). --- # Premade layouts: save a group, apply its look anywhere URL: https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/ Save a finished caption group in ROKLIM with its places, fonts, colours and Fusion animation, then apply it to other groups in DaVinci Resolve in one click. A Premade layout is a finished group of words saved as a file: where each row sits, the gaps, and — word by word — the whole Fusion composition of the Text+ clip, so fonts, colours, hand-made nodes and animation all come along. Apply it to any other group and the words take that place and that look. Open it in Layout → Premade Layout. The panel shows the words under the playhead on a small picture of the frame. ## Save a group 1. Put the playhead on a finished group. 2. Type a name and press Save from group. 3. Optional: tick Export preview to render a short preview next to the file (a picture for a static group, a video for an animated one); with video under the text keeps your footage behind it. Presets are plain .json files in the folder you choose with Folder…. Local opens the folder as a catalog with previews, where you can also delete presets you no longer need. ## Apply a preset 1. Put the playhead on the group you want to style. 2. Pick a preset in the list. Each word gets a row; change it if needed. 3. Press Apply. With Apply with animation on, every word gets the saved composition of its place — style and animation included. 4. Undo returns the group to exactly how it was before the first Apply. Fit animation to clip length squeezes animations that are longer than a share of the word clip (the whole clip, 3/4, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4), starting at the clip start. Animations that fit are left as they are. ## Adjust after applying - Per row: Gap (space between words), Size and Offset (vertical distance from the row above). Drag left or right on a field to change it (Shift = fine, Ctrl = coarse), or click to type. - On the picture: drag a word to move only that word, drag empty space to move the whole group. ## Tips - A preset keeps how many words each row had. With more or fewer words, rows are shared out in proportion and extra words take the look of the last place of their row. - Presets are just files: share them with your team, keep one per client or format. - Fonts: a layout is made with certain fonts, and you may not have them. The list shows Fonts needed under each layout. If the words look wrong or do not show after Apply, just change their font. --- # Animations: Fusion animations on your words URL: https://roklim.com/docs/animation/ Put Fusion .setting animations on Text+ words in DaVinci Resolve by clip colour, by word or by hand. Fit to clip length, edit them right on the viewer. The Animations module (it used to be called Macro) puts Fusion animations — .setting files — on your Text+ words. Which animation a word gets is decided by the clip colour, by the word itself, or by hand. It works on any Text+ clips, not only ones made by Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/). ## Colour → animation 1. In Resolve give your Text+ clips colours (right-click a clip → Clip Color). Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/) can do this for you by row. 2. In the Animations window each row is a colour and its animation: pick the colour in the row's list, then the animation — … picks a file, Web and Local open the catalog with previews. + Add color adds a row, ✕ removes one; clips of colours without a row are skipped. A row shows only the animation name; click into it to see or change the full path, so an animation can come from any folder. 3. Set the Tracks that hold your Text+ clips and the time range (ROKLIM reads the I and O marks from Resolve by itself), or tick Selected clips only. 4. Press RUN. Every Text+ clip of that colour in the range gets that colour's animation. CLEAR ANIMATIONS takes them off again. ## Fit animation to clip length A short word clip and a long animation do not match. With Fit animation to clip length on, pick in ⚙ how: - Share of the clip — an animation longer than the whole clip, 3/4, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 of it is squeezed to that; one that fits stays as it is. - By clip length — your own table in frames (it squeezes and stretches). ## More ways - ADD ANIMATION adds an animation on top of what the clips already have, by colour. - ANIMATE SPECIFIC WORDS picks the animation by the word itself: word lists, each with its animation. - In both you also choose where the animation sits on the clip: Start (plays from the first frame), Center or End (finishes on the last frame). - EDIT ANIMATION lets you change the animations right on the DaVinci viewer — see below. - ADVANCED USER (fold it open at the bottom of the window) holds two tools for people who build their own animations in Fusion: Text into Fusion collects the words of a group into one Fusion composition, keeping each word's animation, timing and place; Save as Macro turns nodes you built in Fusion into a .setting file for ROKLIM. ## Edit Animation Press EDIT ANIMATION in the Animations window and open the Edit page in DaVinci Resolve. ROKLIM sits on top of the viewer, and you change the animations right on the picture — no Fusion page, no preview window. - Pick a word: click its dot on the viewer (Ctrl+click adds more), or select clips on the timeline. Only what is under the playhead — what you see — is changed. - Path: drag the points and handles of the movement. Double-click the line to add a point, right-click a point to remove it, hold Shift to keep the drag straight. - Mini timeline under the picture: drag an animation to move it, drag its ends to change its length — or give one parameter (Blur, Opacity, Path…) its own start and length. - Curve window: click a row of the mini timeline to see its curve; drag keys and handles, use + Key, Mirror, Reset and Fit, zoom with the wheel and resize the window from its corner. - Panel: Move to frame, Apply duration, Animation color, Animation settings, Undo, Reset edits, Reset macro, Delete and Save as. Number fields change with the mouse wheel or by dragging left and right. - Image size (pictures): make a picture bigger or smaller without its animation being cut at the picture's edges. - It follows the viewer when you zoom in, works on vertical and horizontal timelines and on a second monitor, and it shows up in screen recordings — handy for tutorials. - The panel can sit at the top, in the middle or at the bottom; the mini timeline at the bottom, at the top or under the picture. - Windows, and macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. On a Mac, ROKLIM asks once for Accessibility and Screen Recording — it needs them to see the DaVinci viewer. ## The catalog Web opens free ROKLIM animations with preview videos; Local shows the animations in your folder, where you can Save preview (render a preview of a word that has the animation) and Delete files you no longer need. You can preview them on the Animations page (https://roklim.com/animations). ## Tips - Keep one colour per kind of motion (for example orange = slide up, lime = pop) and let Layout colour the rows — then a whole video is animated with one RUN. - Save as Default and Profiles keep your colour → animation sets between videos. --- # SFX: sound effects under your words URL: https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/ ROKLIM SFX places sound effects under Text+ caption words in DaVinci Resolve by clip colour or for particular words, timed to each word. SFX puts sounds on the timeline exactly where your Text+ words are. Which sound a word gets is chosen by the clip colour or by the word itself. Sounds are timed to the start, middle or end of each word clip. ## Colour → sound 1. Choose your sounds folder (Browse). Sounds picked in the catalog are saved there. 2. Set the video tracks that hold your Text+ clips (Where the words are). 3. Set where the sounds go: audio tracks from First sound track; when sounds overlap, up to Max tracks are used. 4. Mark the time range with I and O in Resolve (ROKLIM reads the marks by itself) or tick Selected clips only. 5. Each row is a clip colour and its sound: pick the colour in the row's list, then the sound — … picks a file, Web and Local open the catalog where you can listen first. Trk is the audio track for that sound; Start / Mid / End is where on the clip it lands. + Add color adds a row, ✕ removes one; clips of colours without a row get no sound. A row shows only the file name; click into it to see or change the full path. 6. Press RUN (color). Offset shifts sounds placed at Start a few frames later and sounds at End a few frames earlier; Mid is always the exact middle. ## Word → Sound Word → Sound gives particular words their own sound — for example a cash-register sound on "money", a whoosh on "fast". It works alongside the colour sounds. The list shows the filled rows (at least three); + Add row adds one, ✕ removes one. The window grows wider while it is open. ## Adjustment sounds Adjustment sounds puts a sound on coloured adjustment clips — for example the ones VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) places at markers — so every effect gets its sound too. Rows work like the colour rows; each colour can have a second sound, in the line below the first. ## The sound catalog Listen to and download the ROKLIM SFX pack on the Audio page (https://roklim.com/audio): clicks, pops, whooshes, bass and hits. The sounds are third-party or public material bundled for convenience — check the original license before commercial use. --- # VFX: effects at timeline markers URL: https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/ ROKLIM VFX places an adjustment clip with your Fusion macro at every timeline marker of a chosen colour in DaVinci Resolve. Drop a marker, get the effect. VFX adds effects where you put markers. At every timeline marker of a chosen colour it places an adjustment clip with your Fusion macro — a zoom, a shake, a flash — so the effect applies to everything below it. ## Before you start VFX needs one Adjustment Clip in the Media Pool: in Resolve, Effects → Adjustment Clip, drag it into the Media Pool. ## Marker colour → effect 1. In Resolve add markers on the timeline (key M) and give them colours. 2. In the VFX window each row is a marker colour and its effect: pick the marker colour in the row's first list, then a .setting effect. + Add color adds a row, ✕ removes one; markers of colours without a row are skipped. A row shows only the effect name; click into it to see or change the full path. Local opens your effects folder as a catalog with previews. 3. The adjustment clip is painted in the colour of the row's second list — SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) can put a sound on it. 4. Len Auto makes the clip as long as the effect's animation; untick it to type the length in frames. 5. Target track is the video track for the adjustment clips. Apply mode sets where the animation sits inside each clip: from its start, in the centre, or ending at its end. 6. Only markers between the I and O marks of the timeline are used (ROKLIM reads them by itself); no marks = the whole timeline. 7. Press RUN. ## Place one effect by hand In the catalog, Place on timeline puts an adjustment clip with that effect at the playhead, on the first free track from the Target track up. Pick puts the effect into the colour row you opened the catalog from. --- # AI connector: your AI makes the subtitles, ROKLIM does the work URL: https://roklim.com/docs/ai-connector/ Ask Claude for animated word-by-word subtitles: through ROKLIM it recognizes speech, lays out and animates the words in DaVinci Resolve. With the AI connector (Beta) your AI app works in DaVinci Resolve through ROKLIM. You ask in plain words — *"make animated word-by-word subtitles for this video, key words in orange"* — and the AI uses ROKLIM to recognize the speech, lay out the words and do the whole edit: animations, sounds, effects, colors, fonts and Premade layouts — often in a single step. It works in the free DaVinci Resolve and in Studio. ## Why through ROKLIM An AI can try to build subtitles in Resolve by itself — writing Fusion code word by word, guessing sizes and positions it cannot see. Through ROKLIM it calls a few ready actions instead: speech recognition, Layout (words measured with your font, no overlaps, inside the frame) and animations made by a designer, with sliders the AI can set. In our tests on the same 15-second video: | | AI on its own | AI through ROKLIM | |---|---|---| | Simple animation of ready subtitles | 57 s, $0.47 | 45 s, $0.24 | | Bounce, flash, underline, shine, exit | 204 s, $0.91 — words flashed dark on entry and exit | 69 s, $0.31 | | From the video only: recognize, lay out, animate | not finished after 334 s, $1.22 | 122 s, $0.65 — done | Costs are what the AI service charged for the work; your AI subscription covers them. ## Turn it on In the ROKLIM main window open the AI tab at the top. How to connect walks you through it step by step; in short: 1. Tick AI connector (Beta). It shows ON. 2. Pick where your AI lives — Claude Desktop or Browser & phone (below). 3. Keep DaVinci Resolve and ROKLIM open while you work. ### Claude Desktop Press Add to Claude — ROKLIM adds itself to Claude Desktop (a copy of Claude's settings file is kept). Quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again: in a new chat ROKLIM appears among the tools. Another AI app that supports local MCP connectors: Other AI app: copy setup, then paste it into that app's MCP settings. ### In the browser and on the phone 1. Tick Browser & phone. It shows CONNECTED. 2. Press Copy link. 3. In claude.ai open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it ROKLIM, paste the link, choose No sign-in and press Add. 4. In a new chat — in the browser or in the Claude app on your phone — just ask. Your computer with DaVinci Resolve and ROKLIM must be on and open. It works with a free Claude account too (a free account can add one custom connector). The link is personal: keep it private, whoever has it can use ROKLIM while it is open. New link makes a new one — the old link stops working at once. After a ROKLIM update, disconnect and connect ROKLIM in claude.ai once, so the AI gets the new commands — ROKLIM tells you when. ## Watch what the AI does Show AI activity on the AI tab opens a window next to ROKLIM: every step the AI takes, the frames it looked at, the animations it used or made — with a live preview and its sliders — and Undo last. The AI does not check its work on frames by itself: it tells you the change is done and asks whether to look. If something is off, tell it what — it fixes exactly that. ## What to ask - *"Make animated word-by-word subtitles for the part between the In and Out marks."* - *"Like Easy Mode: top rows Blur_In at the start, a click sound on 'free', the brand name in yellow."* - *"Change the font to Montserrat Bold and make the gaps between words a bit bigger."* - *"Put my Premade layout Exclusion_R1 on the first group."* - *"Why does the animation on 'library' not show?"* — the AI checks how the clip is connected and tells you. - *"Show me how the word 'free' moves."* — the AI gets a frame strip from Resolve. - *"Make the bounce on the brand name stronger."* · *"Undo that."* - *"Download a few whoosh sounds from the ROKLIM catalog."* · *"Make a new pop-up animation for key words and save it."* — needs Work with files. Mark the part of the timeline with I and O first — the AI works between the marks (no marks = the whole timeline). ## You choose what the AI may do On the AI tab, under What the AI may do: - Read the timeline — always on. Words, clips, animations and frames; changes nothing. - Change the timeline (no access to files) — lay out subtitles, put animations, colors, sounds and effects on clips. Every change can be undone. - Ask me first — ROKLIM asks you before the AI replaces words that are already there or removes animations. Tick Don't ask again in that window and the AI works without stops. - Work with files (off at first) — make new animations in your Animations folder (sub-folder AI) and download animations, sounds and effects from the ROKLIM catalog into your folders. It never deletes files. If the AI tries something that is not ticked, ROKLIM tells it where you can turn it on. ## Safe by design - Off by default. Without Use from browser and phone it works only on this computer. With it, ROKLIM connects out to its own cloud link — no ports are opened on your computer, and the cloud passes the AI's requests along without keeping your words or projects. - The AI can use only ROKLIM actions: no scripts, no system commands, and files only if you allow it. It changes only ROKLIM animations, sounds, effects and the subtitles. - Every change can be undone — even after ROKLIM is restarted (a Premade layout: while ROKLIM stays open). - Untick AI connector to switch it off at once. - The words of your subtitles go to your AI service like any text you type in a chat. The AI connector needs ROKLIM Animations; recognizing speech, laying out words, fonts, Premade and Easy Mode need ROKLIM Layout. It works in the 7-day free trial too. --- # Troubleshooting URL: https://roklim.com/docs/troubleshooting/ Fixes for common ROKLIM problems in DaVinci Resolve: cannot connect, Text+ not found, nothing happens on RUN, overlapping words, license and SmartScreen. Start with the setup line at the top of the ROKLIM hub — it checks Resolve, the project, the timeline and the subtitle track, and says what to fix. The most common problems: ## ROKLIM cannot talk to Resolve - Free Resolve: choose Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM — again each time you reopen Resolve. - Resolve Studio: Preferences → System → General → External scripting using = Local, then restart Resolve. - Resolve must be running with a project and a timeline open. ## Create subtitles finds no words - The audio track is muted or turned off in Resolve — ROKLIM renders the timeline audio as you hear it. - In / Out cover a part without speech. Leave them empty for the whole timeline. ## "Windows protected your PC" when installing That is SmartScreen: the installer is not yet signed by a known publisher. Click More info → Run anyway. ## "Text+ not found" Layout makes every word from a Text+ title in the Media Pool. In Resolve: Effects → Titles → Text+, drag it into the Media Pool, keep the name Text+. ## "Adjustment Clip not found in Media Pool" (VFX) Effects → Adjustment Clip, drag it into the Media Pool, run again. ## RUN does nothing, or only part of the timeline changes - The time range does not cover your clips. ROKLIM works between the I and O marks of the timeline. Old marks left on the timeline narrow the range — clear them in Resolve with Alt+X (Mac: Option+X) to work on the whole timeline. - FPS in the window must match the timeline frame rate. - Tracks: the track numbers in the window must be the tracks your Text+ clips are on. - Work on the Edit page: on the Fusion page Resolve does not report the playhead. ## Words overlap or have gaps that are too big Layout needs the real width of every word in your font. Open Text Settings and run Auto-measure for this font and timeline: the playhead on any Text+ clip, timeline playback resolution Full, and project and timeline names in plain Latin letters. Then run Layout again, or fix the laid-out words with Update Existing → Word gap. ## The viewer still shows the old picture after a change Resolve sometimes keeps a cached frame of a Fusion clip after it was changed by a script. Move the playhead, or nudge any property of the clip and back — the new picture appears. ## License - One key works on up to 2 computers. On the old PC press Deactivate this PC in the hub to free a slot. - A lifetime license works offline after activation. - Subscription: while it is active, ROKLIM downloads the engines your license covers when it starts. ## Still stuck? Write to hello@roklim.com (mailto:hello@roklim.com) or ask on Discord (https://discord.gg/FKvJxcmsuX). A screenshot of the hub setup line and the status line of the module helps a lot. --- # Changelog URL: https://roklim.com/changelog/ What changed in every ROKLIM version: Easy Mode, Mac app, free DaVinci Resolve support, subtitles from audio, animations, SFX and VFX. help for Fit to clip, In together and Sizes. - The tabs at the top are separate buttons, and the whole tab lights up. - SFX: no more At Playhead and Groups — + puts the sound on, Apply to decides where. - Narrower buttons in the Apply to row. ### Fixes - Subtitles from audio work again in DaVinci Resolve 21.1.1 — free and Studio. - Free DaVinci Resolve: speech recognition no longer repeats words. - Fewer temporary files left behind. ### AI connector - Your AI can use In together. ## 0.4.7 *October 22, 2026* — Graphics in Easy, One Click your way, pictures you can move ### Easy Mode (Beta) - Graphics (VFX → Graphics): your own Fusion graphics — a composition (.comp) or a group / macro (.setting) — go at the playhead in one click, over or under… - Edit graphic: the controls of the graphic under the playhead — colors, sliders, switches, lists, position and text — change it right in Easy, with Undo. - Graphics catalog: big previews of your graphics, Use, record a preview video, Delete (to the Recycle Bin). - One Click — what to put: tick Position, Font and Animation — put the whole preset or only a part of it. - One Click → CREATE CAPTIONS asks when there are captions already: apply the preset to them, or make new ones. - Pictures: ANIMATIONS → Images shows the picture under the playhead on the frame. - All groups: Easy asks before it changes all groups at once. - Questions now open in ROKLIM's own window. - The catalogs of Looks, One Click presets and Graphics have one button bar at the bottom, like the animations catalog: click picks a card, double-click uses it. - Sounds go on with + only — a click on the name no longer adds them by mistake. - The progress bar sits under the status line and no longer covers it. - The VFX tab no longer shows the Groups row: effects and graphics always go at the playhead. - A clear message tells you what to add to the Media Pool when Text+, an Adjustment Clip or a Fusion Composition is missing. ### AI connector - Your AI can choose what One Click puts (position, font, animation). ## 0.4.6 *October 21, 2026* — Easy Mode grows up: spacing, fonts per row, Copy / Paste and help in 4 languages ### Easy Mode (Beta) - Spacing: set the space between words and between rows before CREATE CAPTIONS. - Fonts per row: every row of a Look keeps its own font, also in One Click presets. - Copy / Paste: copy how a group looks (LAYOUT) or its animations (ANIMATIONS) and paste them onto other groups. - Your own Looks: + saves the group on the frame as a Look, with a picture of it for the tile. - Fonts: the font picker shows the styles each font really has. - SAMPLE remembers its colors and font; a color picked for a word goes on that word only. - Fit to clip: In, Out and FX animations can be fitted to the length of the clip separately. - Clear: tick which animations come off the words. - Sounds: a sound at End now ends exactly at the end of the clip. - One Click Chain: Rows follow — every row of the next group comes in the way the last group left; Rows mixed — the other rows from random sides. - Pictures: ANIMATIONS → Images puts animations on the pictures under the playhead; pictures keep their size. - How to use on every tab and two First time? Let me help helpers — your first captions and your own One Click — in English, Español, Polski and Русский. - A progress bar shows how far an action is. ### Faster - Animations on many words at once are about twice as fast. All notes for 0.4.6 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.4.6) ## 0.4.5 *October 19, 2026* — your own Look from the group on the frame ### Easy Mode (Beta) - LAYOUT: + saves the group on the frame as your own Look — its rows, fonts, colors, sizes, the big row and the alignment. - The effect picker in the color cells shows its list again. ## 0.4.4 *October 19, 2026* — reworked Easy Mode (Beta) ### Reworked Easy Mode (Beta) - The hub has two tabs, Easy and Advanced. - Make the subtitles from the audio, pick a Look and the rows, press CREATE CAPTIONS — the words are laid out in that look right away. - Sizes: Fill (every row fills the frame width) or As saved (the same row sizes in every group). - ANIMATIONS: click a tile and the group, a row or a word gets it; animations by clip color; tiles with arrows for animations that come from a side. - SFX and VFX: sounds and effects at the start or end of words, rows or groups, with an offset; sounds by clip color; + puts a sound or an effect at the playhead. - Web / Local: animations, sounds and effects from the roklim.com catalog are downloaded and put on the words in one click. - ONE CLICK: save a group with its look and animations as a preset and put it on every group; Chain makes the groups leave and come in from changing sides. ## 0.4.3 *October 17, 2026* — DaVinci Resolve stays smooth while ROKLIM is open ### Works quietly next to DaVinci Resolve - While you work in DaVinci Resolve, ROKLIM no longer closes its drop-down lists or interrupts dragging a value with the mouse. - After updating, run Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM once in DaVinci Resolve (or restart DaVinci Resolve), so the new version runs inside it. ### Edit Animation - Path points of animations like Slide In, Slide Out and Slight Bounce can now be moved on the viewer. - The motion curve no longer jumps up after you move a path point or change the curve — animations that come in from the side end where they should. - With Edit Animation open, ROKLIM looks at DaVinci only while the mouse is over the viewer or the Edit panel. - No more error message when you close Edit Animation. ### Animations on pictures - A picture of another shape than the timeline (for example a 9:16 picture on a 16:9 timeline) keeps its size with every animation. - Animations that measure what they are on (frames, rectangles, rounded corners, shine) follow the edges of the picture itself. - Adding animations to words no longer puts a picture on the timeline for a moment. ## 0.4.2 *October 13, 2026* — your AI lays out subtitles like you do ### AI connector (Beta) - The font is calibrated first. When your AI lays out subtitles, ROKLIM calibrates the font before the layout — like RUN ALL in Easy Mode — so the words are… - Tell your AI the font. Ask for example *"subtitles in Montserrat Bold"*: the words are laid out in that font right away. - No colored words unless you ask. The AI no longer colors key words on its own. - Undo now removes the words after the AI lays out the same subtitles a second time. - The AI can look at a whole frame, to see a group of words at once (only when you ask it to check). - AI activity shows the recognized text and, for a layout, the font, the fixed words and the calibration. - After this update, reconnect ROKLIM in claude.ai once (Settings → Connectors → ROKLIM → Disconnect, then Connect) so the AI gets the new abilities. ### Layout - Rows of words no longer overlap with fonts whose letters sit higher than usual (for example some versions of Mont): a big row under a small one used to cover… ## 0.4.1 *October 12, 2026* — your AI learns from the ROKLIM catalog and spends less ### AI connector (Beta) - Ready animations first. When you ask for an animation, the AI first looks through your animations and the ROKLIM catalog in one quick step and uses what… - "Like this one, but…" — the AI can save a changed copy of any animation (yours or from the catalog) in one step: faster or slower, softer or stronger,… - Misheard words cost far less to fix: the AI sends ROKLIM only the corrections (for example a name spelled wrong) instead of rewriting all your subtitles —… - Shorter answers from ROKLIM to the AI, so long jobs use fewer credits. - Your AI can look at any animation and effect in the ROKLIM catalog on roklim.com — free and Premium — and see how it moves, without downloading it to your… - New animations made by the AI can have a glow color and a shadow color you change later, like the other settings of an animation. - After this update, reconnect ROKLIM in claude.ai once (Settings → Connectors → ROKLIM → Disconnect, then Connect) so the AI gets the new abilities — ROKLIM… ### Fixes - Drop-down lists in DaVinci Resolve (for example in the Inspector) no longer close by themselves while ROKLIM is open: ROKLIM reads your In / Out marks only… ## 0.4.0 *October 12, 2026* — your AI edits subtitles in DaVinci Resolve with ROKLIM ### AI connector (Beta) - Open the new AI tab at the top of the main window, tick AI connector, press Add to Claude and restart Claude Desktop (for another AI app that… - The AI works through ROKLIM: it recognizes the speech, lays out the words with your Layout settings (no overlaps, inside the frame, where you want them), then… - The whole edit in one request, like Easy Mode: animations and sounds by row, animations, sounds, effects and colors on chosen words. - Faster and cheaper than letting the AI build subtitles on its own: in our tests the same job took 2–3 times less time and cost, and the AI finished jobs it… - Ask it how ROKLIM works — it answers from the help inside the ROKLIM windows and the roklim.com docs, in your language. - "Something does not work" — the AI checks your setup (DaVinci, project, Media Pool, licenses) and tells you what to fix. - Ask for part of the video ("the first 10 seconds") — the AI sets the In / Out marks itself. - Works with a free Claude account too (claude.ai: one custom connector). - Ask it why an animation does not show — it checks how the clip is connected and tells you what is wrong. - From the browser and the phone: tick Browser & phone, press Copy link and add it in claude.ai (Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector). - How to connect on the AI tab walks you through it step by step: Claude Desktop, or claude.ai in the browser and on the phone. - Show AI activity opens a window next to ROKLIM: every step the AI takes, the frames it looked at, the animations it used or made (with a live preview) —… - The AI does not look at frames by itself: it tells you the change is done and asks whether to check it. - After a ROKLIM update ROKLIM tells you (and your AI) when to reconnect it in claude.ai, so the AI gets the new commands. All notes for 0.4.0 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.4.0) ## 0.3.9 *October 11, 2026* — faster Edit Animation, tidier windows, Macro is now Animations ### Faster - Edit Animation in the free DaVinci Resolve: dragging a path point now takes a fraction of a second instead of several seconds. ### Animations (was Macro) - The Macro module is now called Animations: CLEAR ANIMATIONS, ADD ANIMATION, ANIMATE SPECIFIC WORDS and EDIT ANIMATION (was Edit in DaVinci). - Colour rows you add as you need them: three by default, + Add color adds one, ✕ removes one. - A narrower window. - Pictures: an animation no longer makes a wide picture smaller. ### Layout - TEXT POSITION ZONE folds and shows its four values when folded. - Text layout: 1 row, 2 rows, 3 rows or Custom — each with its own Fine settings, saved with Save. - A smaller window. - Auto-measure puts a temporary Text+ on the timeline by itself when there is none under the playhead, and gives your own Text+ back exactly as it was. - Update Existing: the plain Font & Style change is gone — DaVinci Resolve changes fonts of many clips by itself now. ### SFX and VFX - Colour rows like in Animations, and file names instead of paths. - SFX: Word → Sound widens the window while it is open; adjustment sounds sit in two lines. - VFX: marker colour rows, three by default. ### Time range by itself - ROKLIM reads the I and O marks of your timeline by itself and shows them in every window — there is no Get In/Out button any more. All notes for 0.3.9 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.3.9) ## 0.3.8 *October 6, 2026* — Edit in DaVinci (Beta): change animations right on the DaVinci viewer ### Edit in DaVinci (Beta, new) - In ROKLIM Macro, press EDIT IN DAVINCI: ROKLIM sits on top of the DaVinci viewer, and you change animations right on the picture. - Pick a word: click its dot on the viewer (Ctrl+click adds more), or select clips on the timeline — only what is under the playhead, what you see, is… - Path: drag the points and handles of the movement. - Mini timeline under the picture: drag an animation to move it, drag its ends to change its length — or give one parameter (Blur, Opacity, Path…) its own… - Curve window: drag keys and handles, + Key, Mirror, Reset, Fit; zoom with the wheel, resize from the corner. - Panel: Move to frame, Apply duration, Macro color, Macro settings, Undo, Reset edits, Reset macro, Delete, Save as. - Image size for pictures: make a picture bigger or smaller without its animation being cut at the picture's edges. - Works when the viewer is zoomed in, on vertical and horizontal timelines, on a second monitor, and it shows up in screen recordings. - The panel can sit at the top, in the middle or at the bottom; the mini timeline at the bottom, at the top or under the picture. - Windows, and macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. ### Also - Free DaVinci Resolve: changing path points now works on every clip. - ROKLIM no longer leaves temporary files behind. ## 0.3.7 *October 3, 2026* — Easy Mode: the whole edit in one click ### Easy Mode (new) - A new big button in the hub, right above All in one: Easy Mode. - No subtitles yet? Make them from the audio right at the top of the window (works in the free DaVinci Resolve too). - Text: font and style, the text zone, the size (from … to, or one size for everything), the text tracks. - Rows: for the top, middle and bottom row of every group — an animation at the start, in the middle and at the end of the word, and a sound at the start,… - Words: as many rows as you need (up to 16): these words get their own animation, sound and VFX — and you choose where. - VFX on words: the effect starts or ends with the word in your subtitles and plays in full. - Font calibration happens by itself: if no Text+ is under the playhead, ROKLIM puts one there, measures only the words it has not measured yet, and removes… - Remove animations and Selected clips only under RUN ALL. - Folders for animations, sounds and VFX — the same folders as in the modules. - The catalog from Easy Mode has the same buttons as in the modules: Add to clip, Delete from clip, Add to timeline. - How to use and First time? Let me help, in English, Español, Polski and Русский. ### Also - VFX: choose your VFX folder in the window. - Macro: the window can be made narrow; Change Macro widens it when it opens. - SFX: the RUN summary now shows how many sounds were placed. ## 0.3.6 *October 2, 2026* — friendly for beginners - ROKLIM now teaches itself. ### A "?" next to every part of a window - Every part that How to use explains has a small ? in its corner. ### How to use, clearer - Steps for Change Macro, Text into Fusion and Save as Macro; advanced tools are marked "for advanced users". - Web and Local catalogs explained: downloads land in your folder, and files already there are used from there. - Button names in the tips match the buttons, in your language. ### Layout - Use SRT file (instead of the subtitle track) — a switch right under «or SRT file». - All in English, Español, Polski and Русский. ## 0.3.5 *October 2, 2026* ### Save as Macro - New Save as Macro button in Macro, next to Text into Fusion. - In Fusion, select your nodes (or your group) and press Ctrl+C. - Loose nodes are grouped for you: ROKLIM finds the input the word goes into and the output; you can pick others. - Everything you built stays exactly as it is: expressions, sliders, published inputs, curves and paths. - Your own folder paths that Fusion writes into a saved macro are removed, so the file works on any computer. ### Subtitles from audio (free DaVinci Resolve) - After Create subtitles ROKLIM tells you the time of the first word and what to do next: add a Subtitle track, put the playhead there and drag the SRT from… - The new SRT no longer goes into or SRT file by itself, so Layout keeps reading the subtitle track — your corrections in DaVinci count. ### Also - How to use is longer: new steps for Change Macro (clips, path, timing curve, start and length, Live, saving), Text into Fusion, Save as Macro and Premade… - How to use in Layout, Macro and VFX now starts with a Media Pool step: how to put the Text+ clip (or the Adjustment Clip for VFX) into the Media Pool —… - Change Macro in the free DaVinci Resolve 21.1: path points and the path curve now save and read back correctly (Macro core 0.1.47, already live). ## 0.3.4 *September 30, 2026* ### Any frame rate - ROKLIM now reads the frame rate from your DaVinci timeline. - On 25 / 30 fps timelines (and any rate that differs from your project), words now land exactly on their subtitles and get the right length. - In/Out no longer says "0 subtitles in range" when the subtitles are there. - VFX adjustment clips and Macro text clips also get the right length on such timelines. - The Layout status line shows the frame rate it used, e.g. ## 0.3.3 *September 30, 2026* ### Computer speed - New in the ROKLIM hub: Computer speed — Normal / Slow / Very slow. - On a slower computer DaVinci Resolve answers more slowly, and ROKLIM could stop too early: "DaVinci Resolve is not connected", "stopped answering", "took too… - Slow makes ROKLIM wait 2× longer, Very slow 4× longer — for DaVinci's answers, word measuring in Layout and calibration, and preview renders. - If you see those messages, set Slow first; if they still appear, Very slow. - On Slow / Very slow ROKLIM also works at a calmer pace: a short pause before every clip it adds and every animation it loads (0.1 s / 0.25 s), in all… - Layout retries a word if DaVinci did not create its clip or text in time, and counts it as failed if it still could not. ## 0.3.2 *September 30, 2026* ### Fonts, the way DaVinci shows them - In Layout → Text Settings, the new Aa button next to Font opens a font browser: every font name is written in its own font. - Sample text — type your own words and see them in every font. - Size slider (10–60 px) makes the preview smaller or bigger. - Click a font to pick it: Font and Style update at once. ## 0.3.1 *September 30, 2026* ### All in one (Beta) - A new All in one button in the ROKLIM hub opens every module — Layout, Macro, SFX, VFX — as tabs of one window, for those who prefer one window to four. - The window takes each module's width when you switch tabs; side panels (Premade, Change Macro) widen it as before. - It is a beta: if something works differently than in a separate window, tell us. ### Also in this version - Bounce_Color animations: the flash lies on the letters and the word keeps its own Text+ color; they work in any Fusion composition. - Text into Fusion: every word stays in its place, with or without an animation, and its animation keeps working. - Mac: ROKLIM tells you when a new version is out and opens the download. ## 0.3.0 *September 28, 2026* ### ROKLIM for Mac - ROKLIM now runs on Mac — Apple silicon (M1–M4) and Intel, DaVinci Resolve free or Studio, the same license key. - Everything works as on Windows: Layout, subtitles from audio (the speech recognizer downloads by itself), Premade, Macro, SFX, VFX, the catalog and Save… - The first time you open it, macOS says it could not verify "ROKLIM" (the app is not notarized by Apple yet): press Done, then System Settings → Privacy… - On Mac, ROKLIM tells you when a new version is out: Download opens the new .dmg — quit ROKLIM and drag the new one into Applications (Replace). ### Change Macro - Bounce_Color animations are rebuilt: the white flash lies on the letters and the word keeps its own Text+ color — they now work in any Fusion composition… - Text into Fusion: every word stays in its place, with or without an animation, and its animation keeps working. - Macro color — change the colours inside an animation (the line of UnderLine, the band of Shine, a shadow, the box of Rectangle…) with a colour picker. - Macro settings — sliders for sizes inside an animation: width, thickness, gap, padding, soft edge, corner radius. - Readable names — rows say Path, Position, Scale, Rotation, Opacity, Blur, Glow… instead of Fusion's internal names. - Live explains what it needs: a second monitor with Video Clean Feed turned on once in DaVinci. - The preview now shows Shine on pictures and says which effects only DaVinci can show. ### Animations on pictures - Add Macro works on a picture that was never opened in Fusion. - A picture keeps its size with every Input Scaling setting of the project. - Shine, UnderLine and Rectangle fit the picture itself, not the whole frame. All notes for 0.3.0 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.3.0) ## 0.2.9 *September 27, 2026* ### Macro - Change Macro → Duration → All keys. Stretches the whole animation as one block: the last key of all its nodes lands on Start + Duration, and the nodes… - A picture keeps its size and place when it gets its first animation. - Deleting one macro no longer touches another macro on the same clip. ### Catalog - Save preview with the playhead on a picture saves name_img.mp4 — the preview for pictures. - DaVinci animations get Text / Images tabs, and video previews play in a loop. - The updated core downloads by itself: Macro 0.1.34. ## 0.2.8 *September 26, 2026* ### Free DaVinci Resolve - ROKLIM now works with the free DaVinci Resolve. In Resolve choose Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM — once each time you open Resolve. - DaVinci Resolve Studio works as before and does not need this step. ### Subtitles from audio - Layout → DaVinci Resolve Free → Create subtitles. The free Resolve has no Create Subtitles from Audio, so ROKLIM makes them itself, on your computer: it… - The SRT is set as the Layout source right away and goes to the ROKLIM bin of the Media Pool. - Word timing is close to DaVinci Studio's own subtitles (measured on three videos, including one with music). - The speech model (Balanced, the best timing in our tests) downloads once — 181 MB: press Download model, or it downloads by itself on the first Create… - Speech recognition: OpenAI Whisper via whisper.cpp, Silero VAD — MIT license. - Files: subtitles go to …\Fusion\Roklim\ROKLIM\Subtitles\\, downloads to the Downloads folder shown in the main window (you can move it). ### Main window - Checks DaVinci Resolve by itself — no need to press Check again. - Downloads folder at the bottom: where ROKLIM keeps the speech model. ### Premade Layout - Words snap to each other on the canvas (same height, same width). - Steadier editing: stacked pairs keep together when you resize, one change at a time reaches DaVinci. ### Renders - After a Premade preview or subtitles, your Deliver settings (format, location, file name), In/Out marks and page come back as they were. ## 0.2.7 *September 26, 2026* ### Premade Layout - Pairs. A word made of two stacked clips is saved and applied as one word. - Add to timeline on Local and Web layout cards puts the saved group itself at the playhead. - Style for each word: choose whose look the word takes from the preset. - The word list is two columns: track, word and a row dropdown. - Clicking a word on the canvas selects it and no longer changes its row or style. - Zoom the canvas with the mouse wheel, pan with the middle button, or use the zoom buttons in the corner. - Save always takes where the words are right now. ### Layout - SRT file as the subtitle source: "or SRT file:" under Subtitle Track. - Rows are found by where the words really are, including words you moved by hand. ### Macro - Text into Fusion orders the words of a group by start time, so the first word is the base. ## 0.2.6 *September 25, 2026* ### Macro - Fit animation to clip length has a new mode, Share of the clip: a macro longer than the whole clip, 3/4, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 of it is squeezed to… - No more grey unconnected nodes in Fusion after a macro is inserted. - The Macro window opens big enough to show everything. ### Premade Layout - Fit animation to clip length works the same way: the animation starts with the clip and is squeezed to the chosen share only when it is longer. - Pick in the Local catalog closes the catalog. ### Local catalog - Delete on every layout and macro: asks first, then moves the file and its preview to the Recycle Bin. - Downloading from Web also saves the preview next to the file. ### VFX - Web / Local on every row, with previews. - The VFX window opens big enough to show everything. ### Windows and updates - The main window fits its content (and grows when you open Details). - The update window lists what is new and links to these notes. ## 0.2.5 *September 24, 2026* - Fixes and improvements. - Premade Layout: tidier Gap / Size / Offset table; Export preview makes a video (or a picture for a static layout) next to the preset. - Local catalog: previews are real videos or pictures only; Save preview for macros. - After a preview render DaVinci Resolve goes back to the page you were on. - Help: clearer time range tip (timelines in DaVinci usually start at 01:00:00:00) and an honest note about what the Edit preview shows. - The Visual panel and DRY RUN buttons are gone from the windows. - The Macro core (0.1.28) downloads by itself. ## 0.2.4 *September 24, 2026* ### Layout — clip colours by line - Color clips by now has two modes. - Line is now the default. Settings and profiles saved before keep working and open in Line; pick Role and save if you want the old Big / Context colours. - Colour lists show a small swatch next to each name — the same colours as clip colours in DaVinci. - Export Layout still reads roles from colours, so use Role when you export. ### Premade Layout — keeps your rows - Apply puts the words into the same rows as the saved group: as many words per row as it had, in the order they are spoken (a group with more or fewer words is… - Rows are labelled row 1, row 2, … — as many as the preset has. - When a row has as many words as in the saved group, every word lands exactly where its word stood — staggered and offset rows come out as designed. ### Macro — Change Macro reads fast - New row Read: Text / Images / Video / Adjustment / Fusion comp. ## 0.2.3 *September 24, 2026* ### Local catalog - Local next to every Web button in Macro and SFX, and Local… in Premade Layout: your own files in that folder. - Sounds play. - Animated / Static filter by keyframes, search, and drop files into the window to copy them into the folder. - Apply, Add to clip, Edit and Add on timeline work on your own files just like on Web ones. ### Premade Layout - Drag a single word on the canvas to move just that word; drag empty space to move the whole group. - Drag Gap / Size / Offset left or right with the mouse to change them (Shift = fine, Ctrl = coarse); click to type. ## 0.2.2 *September 23, 2026* ### Macro: Fit animation to clip length - New checkbox with a ⚙ rules table in Macro, Add Macro and Word → Macro. - Each rule: clip length from–to (frames) → animation length (frames). - The whole macro is stretched or squeezed as one piece: every animation inside keeps its proportions, and the last key lands exactly that many frames after the… - A clip that matches no rule keeps the animation as is. - Works for RUN, Add Macro, Add to clip and Word → Macro. ### Layout: Premade presets save everything - Save from group now stores everything on each word: what you added by hand, keyframes, any animations. - Apply puts it all on each word and keeps the word's own text. - New checkbox: Fit animation to clip length — off keeps the animation as saved, on moves it so the last key lands on the clip's last frame. - Undo returns every word exactly as it was before the preset: animation, nodes, position, style and blend mode. - Dragging the group and then clicking a word no longer throws the group back. - The Visual panel and Premade now work with the Layout engine your app downloads (engine 0.1.10 — restart ROKLIM once to pick it up). ### Catalog - Tabs follow the module: Macro shows Presets and Layouts, Layout shows Layouts, SFX shows Sounds; tabs that don't apply are greyed out. - Folder… button: pick where downloads go, separately for sounds, macros and layouts. ### Fixes - Fixed: DaVinci Resolve could freeze while an animation or preset was being applied (Macro update 0.1.26, downloads by itself on the next ROKLIM start). ## 0.2.1 *September 15, 2026* ### Text into Fusion - New button in Macro (under Save as Default / Load Default): collect Text+ clips into one Fusion composition. - Scope: under playhead, time range, or selected clips. - Copy inner nodes (Path, shadow, macros) — on by default. - Word timing — on by default (each word keeps its clip in/out). ### Word → Macro / Word → Sound - You can type the words straight into a cell (comma or newline). ## 0.2.0 *August 25, 2026* - Change Macro: position and length are separate operations, each with its own button. - Start (frame) + Change — move the animation to that frame. - Place on clip + Change — the same three anchors Add Macro uses: Start puts the first keyframe on the clip's first frame, End puts the last keyframe on its… - Apply duration — change the length only. - Reset — load the macro again from its .setting: original length, placed by the dropdown. ### Layout - Max rows — a hard cap on how many rows one group may take. - Uniform size — one size for the whole text. - Center rows — puts every row in the middle of the frame. - Word gap and Line gap now live in the main window as one value for the whole text. ### Update Existing - Center groups on screen — each row of the selected groups is centred on the frame: the space from the left edge to the first word equals the space from… - Word gap — set the space between neighbouring words to an exact number of pixels, for every gap or for gap #N, the same way Line gap already worked. - Both report every row they could not adjust instead of guessing at it. ### Web catalogue - The catalogue can now put things straight onto the timeline instead of only filling a slot. - Add on timeline (SFX) — drops the chosen sound at the playhead. All notes for 0.2.0 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.2.0) ## 0.1.98 *August 24, 2026* — Resolve MACRO - CHANGE MACRO window: playhead / selected (Resolve 21.0.4+) - Apply: the animation on the selected clips is replaced with the same one at the new Duration and Start / Center / End - Delete: removes the animation from the selected clips ## 0.1.8 *August 17, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.1+ and Adobe (After Effects + Premiere Pro). ### What's new in 0.1.8 - App auto-update: check on launch; Help → Check for updates; Update / Later / Skip. - AE Animation/VFX write to active composition. - Install AE/PP panels: wipe old folders, copy from this app. - Timeline start TC offset (Import/Layout on 01:00:00:00) - Selected clips only: Resolve 21.0.4+ - Verified: Studio 19.1.4 / 20.3.3 / 21.0.4.5 - Adobe since 0.1.6, in this build too: AE (Layout, Animation, VFX), PP (SFX). ## 0.1.7 *August 17, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.1+ and Adobe (After Effects + Premiere Pro). ### What's new in 0.1.7 - Timeline start TC offset (Import/Layout on 01:00:00:00) - Selected clips only: Resolve 21.0.4+ - Verified: Studio 19.1.4 / 20.3.3 / 21.0.4.5 - Adobe since 0.1.6, in this build too: AE (Layout, Animation, VFX), PP (SFX). ## 0.1.6 *August 16, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve and Adobe (After Effects + Premiere Pro). ### What's new in 0.1.6 - Adobe: After Effects (Layout, Animation, VFX) + Premiere Pro (SFX). - Hub: DaVinci | Adobe. - One license key for the Resolve app and the Adobe panels. - Module engines for Resolve still download on launch; this installer is the window plus the Adobe panel files. ## 0.1.5 *August 15, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve. - Four modules, all included: Layout, Macro, SFX, VFX. ### What's new in 0.1.5 - Selected clips only — Layout, Macro, SFX and VFX can target the timeline selection instead of In/Out. - In/Out fields in Layout Text Settings. - Same installer UI that is running on the author machine (2026-08-15). - Module engines (layout / macros / sound / VFX) still download on launch; this installer is the window only. ## 0.1.3 *August 2, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve. - Four modules, all included: - Layout — word-by-word subtitle text layout engine - Macro — color → animation macros - SFX — color / word → sound - VFX — marker → adjustment clips / VFX ### What's new in 0.1.3 - Layout — line gap control in Update Existing - Set the gap between rows of an already laid-out group. Gap means the white space between rows — the same number, in the same units, as the V.Gap… - Changing a gap moves every row below it by the same amount, so the rows underneath never collide. - Dry run reports what would change — per group, the current and the new gap, and the shift each row would take — and applies nothing. - Works inside the From / To timecode range like the rest of the window. - The number you type is the gap you get, whatever the font or size. - Macro — Get In/Out in Clear Macros - The Clear Macros window has its own From / To timecode fields; it now has the Get In/Out button to fill them from the timeline, the same as Add Macro. All notes for 0.1.3 on GitHub (https://github.com/KlimRoPa/roklim-releases/releases/tag/v0.1.3) ## 0.1.2 *July 28, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve. - Four modules, all included: - Layout — word-by-word subtitle text layout engine - Macro — color → animation macros - SFX — color / word → sound - VFX — marker → adjustment clips / VFX ### What's new in 0.1.2 — Macro - Seven cells in Add Macro instead of three, so more colours can be mapped in one pass. - New "Add under playhead" mode. Tick it and Add Macro switches source entirely: three cells, each with its own Start / Center / End position, applied to… - DRY preview for the playhead mode — lists the clips that will be hit and the position each cell will use, before anything is written. - The dry-run counter now tells the truth. It used to report clips as "would process" that RUN then silently skipped; it now reports them as already… - Settings and named profiles carry the new mode, including its three cells. ## 0.1.1 *July 26, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve. - Four modules, all included: - Layout — word-by-word subtitle text layout engine - Macro — color → animation macros - SFX — color / word → sound - VFX — marker → adjustment clips / VFX ### What's new in 0.1.1 - A lapsed subscription now shows "Subscription expired — please renew" with a Renew button, instead of "Invalid license key". - Layout: refreshed defaults (zones, tracks, punctuation breaks, role colouring, Arial as the default font, retuned size ranges). - Layout: AI-import now creates the video tracks it needs, so no words are silently dropped. - SFX: a word listed in several cells now plays the sound from each of them; End now means the sound *finishes* at the end of the word. ## 0.1.0 *July 6, 2026* - ROKLIM — subtitle automation for DaVinci Resolve. - Four modules, all included: - Layout — word-by-word subtitle text layout engine - Macro — color → animation macros - SFX — color / word → sound - VFX — marker → adjustment clips / VFX --- # Guides URL: https://roklim.com/guides/ Step-by-step guides for DaVinci Resolve, free or Studio: word-by-word captions, short-form video, sound on words, batch-editing Text+ and animating titles. Start with Getting started (https://roklim.com/docs/getting-started/). --- # How to make animated word-by-word captions in DaVinci Resolve URL: https://roklim.com/guides/animated-word-by-word-captions-davinci-resolve/ Step-by-step: turn speech into animated word-by-word captions in DaVinci Resolve — subtitles, one Text+ clip per word, layout and animation. Word-by-word captions — each word appearing as it is spoken, key words bigger and animated — are the standard look of talking-head content. Built by hand in DaVinci Resolve that means placing, sizing and animating hundreds of Text+ clips. This guide shows the whole process with DaVinci Resolve and ROKLIM, where the manual part becomes a few button presses. ## What you need - DaVinci Resolve on Windows — free, or Studio 19.1 or newer. Connect ROKLIM: free Resolve Workspace → Scripts → ROKLIM; Studio External scripting using = Local in Preferences → System → General. - ROKLIM — free 7-day trial (https://roklim.com/#trial), no card. - A Text+ title in the Media Pool (Effects → Titles → Text+, drag it into the Media Pool). ## Step 1: Get the words ROKLIM starts from subtitles, so first get the text: - From the audio with ROKLIM: in Layout press DaVinci Resolve Free → Create subtitles. ROKLIM makes word-by-word subtitles on your computer, puts the SRT in the Media Pool and shows where the first word starts. - From the audio in Resolve Studio: in the Timeline menu use Create Subtitles from Audio. It adds a subtitle track with timed text. - From a file: import an SRT into the Media Pool and drop it on the timeline. Read the text once and fix mistakes now — names, numbers, slang. Every later step reuses these words. ## Step 2: Lay out every word as its own clip Open ROKLIM → Layout. 1. Subtitle track: the number of your subtitle track (1 = the first). If ROKLIM made the subtitles, its SRT is already set — skip this. 2. Zone: Top/Bottom Tilt and Left/Right Pan — the part of the frame the words may use. Turn on the rulers in the Resolve viewer and pull guides to see it on the frame. 3. Text tracks: free video tracks above your footage, for example 3,4,5,6,7,8. Word 1 of each group goes on the first one, word 2 on the second, and so on. 4. Groups and rows: how many words are on screen at once (Words/group, Max chars) and how many per row. Shorter groups feel faster; 3–5 words suit most talking heads. 5. Text Settings: pick the font and colour, then press Auto-measure once for this font and timeline (playback resolution Full; ROKLIM puts a Text+ from the Media Pool on the timeline for it and removes it after). This lets Layout know the exact width of every word so nothing overlaps. 6. Colour clips by: *Line* colours row 1, row 2 and row 3 differently; *Role* marks the key row of each group as Big. These colours drive the animation in the next step. 7. Mark the part of the timeline with I / O in Resolve (no marks = the whole timeline), then press RUN. Every word is now a Text+ clip, sized to fit its row and placed in your zone. Because each word is a separate clip, changing a word or its timing later does not break the rest of the layout. See Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/) for every setting. ## Step 3: Animate by colour Open ROKLIM → Animations. 1. For each clip colour pick an animation — a Fusion .setting file. Web opens free ROKLIM animations with previews; Local shows your own. + Add color adds a row for another colour. 2. Set the same text tracks and time range. 3. Optional: Fit animation to clip length so long animations never outlast short words. 4. Press RUN. Now the rows animate the way you assigned: for example row 1 slides up, the key row pops. See Animations (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/). ## Step 4: Sound and effects (optional) - SFX puts a sound under the words — by colour or for particular words — timed to each clip. See SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/). - VFX places effects at timeline markers: drop a coloured marker, get a zoom or a shake there. See VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/). ## Step 5: Polish - Move a single word with Pan/Tilt in the Inspector, or drag it in Premade Layout. - Change the font of everything without losing positions: Text Settings → Change Font. - Tighten or loosen spacing for the whole range: Update Existing → Line gap / Word gap / Resize. - Like a group? Save it as a Premade layout (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/) and apply its look to other groups. ## Why one clip per word Caption templates that animate a whole subtitle track are fast to apply but hard to adjust: one word cannot get its own size, place or motion. With one Text+ clip per word, every word stays under Edit-page control — and ROKLIM's tools can re-flow a whole range when you change your mind. --- # Captions for TikTok, Reels and Shorts in DaVinci Resolve URL: https://roklim.com/guides/tiktok-reels-shorts-captions-davinci-resolve/ Animated captions for vertical 9:16 video in DaVinci Resolve: where to put them, how big, how many words, and how to do a whole video fast with ROKLIM. Short vertical video is watched on a phone, often without sound, while the app draws its own buttons and text over your picture. Captions have to be readable at a glance, stay clear of the interface and keep up with fast speech. Here is how to set that up in DaVinci Resolve and do it for a whole video with ROKLIM. ## Set up the timeline Use a vertical timeline, 1080 × 1920, at the frame rate of your footage. ROKLIM counts positions in pixels from the frame centre, so all the numbers below refer to this frame. ## Where the captions go - Keep away from the bottom and the right edge. TikTok, Reels and Shorts put the caption text, the username and the like/comment/share buttons there. - Keep off the face. In a talking head the safest place is usually the upper-middle area, above the chin line, or the chest area below it — whichever your framing leaves free. - In ROKLIM this is the zone: Top Tilt / Bottom Tilt / Left Pan / Right Pan in Layout. Turn on the rulers in the Resolve viewer, pull guides around the free area and copy the numbers. ## How much text at once - 1–4 words per group for fast speech; up to 5–6 for slower, calm delivery. - 2–3 rows at most. In Layout: *Words/group* and *Max rows*. - Let the key row be the biggest: with *Colour clips by → Role* ROKLIM marks it Big, and you can give it its own colour and animation. - Break groups at sentence ends: *Break on punct* with . ? !. ## Readability - Bold, simple fonts read best at phone size. Calibrate the font once with Auto-measure so rows are packed exactly. - Keep strong contrast: white or bright text, with a shadow or outline if the background is busy. - Use colour for meaning, not decoration: one accent colour for the key words is enough. ## Motion and sound - Short, quick animations (a few frames) suit short words; turn on Fit animation to clip length in Animations so long animations are squeezed into short words. - A soft pop or click under key words adds energy — SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) places them by colour or by word. - A marker-driven zoom or shake on a punchline — VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/). ## Do the whole video fast 1. Subtitles: ROKLIM's Create subtitles in Layout, or Resolve Studio's Create Subtitles from Audio (Timeline menu), then fix the text. 2. Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/): your zone, 3–4 words per group, colour by Role or Line, RUN. 3. Animations (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/): one animation per colour, RUN. 4. SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) and VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) if you want them. 5. Found a group you love? Save it as a Premade layout (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/) and reuse the look for the rest of the video or the next one. Full walkthrough: animated word-by-word captions in DaVinci Resolve (https://roklim.com/guides/animated-word-by-word-captions-davinci-resolve/). --- # Add sound effects to caption words automatically URL: https://roklim.com/guides/sound-effects-for-captions-davinci-resolve/ Put pops, clicks and whooshes under caption words in DaVinci Resolve automatically — by clip colour or for particular words, timed to each word. Small sounds under the words — a pop when a key word lands, a whoosh when a line flies in — make captions feel alive. Placing them by hand means lining up a sound with every Text+ clip. ROKLIM's SFX module does it for a whole video: it reads where your words are and puts a sound under each one you choose. ## What decides which word gets a sound - Clip colour. Give each colour a sound: for example the key row (Big) gets a pop, the other rows get nothing or a soft click. Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/) can colour the clips for you by row. - The word itself. Word → Sound gives particular words their own sound — "money" gets a cash register, "boom" gets a hit. - Adjustment clips. Effects that VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) placed at markers can get a sound too (Adjustment sounds). ## Step by step 1. Open ROKLIM → SFX and choose your sounds folder. 2. Where the words are: the video tracks with your Text+ clips. 3. Where the sounds go: the first audio track to use and how many tracks may be used when sounds overlap. 4. Time range: mark it with I / O in Resolve — ROKLIM reads the marks by itself (or tick Selected clips only). 5. For each colour pick a sound — Web and Local open the catalog so you can listen first — its audio track, and where on the clip it lands: Start, Mid or End. 6. Press RUN (color). Then open Word → Sound for word-specific sounds. Offset moves sounds a few frames into the word — a sound at Start lands slightly later, a sound at End slightly earlier — which often feels more natural than exactly on the cut. ## Picking sounds - Short, quiet, consistent sounds work best under text — the voice stays in front. - Use one sound per role: the same pop for every key word makes the rhythm readable. - The ROKLIM SFX pack — clicks, pops, whooshes, bass and hits — is on the Audio page (https://roklim.com/audio). It is third-party / public material; check the original license before commercial use. More settings: SFX documentation (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/). --- # Reuse a caption style across a video (and the next one) URL: https://roklim.com/guides/reuse-caption-style-davinci-resolve/ Save a finished animated caption group in DaVinci Resolve with its places, fonts and animation, and apply the same look to any other group with ROKLIM. You spend time on one group until it looks right — the sizes, the colours, a custom Fusion node, the animation. Then the next forty groups need the same look. ROKLIM's Premade layouts save that finished group once and apply it to any other group. ## What a preset keeps - where each row sits and the gaps between words and rows; - for every word, its whole Fusion composition — font, size, colour, hand-made nodes and animation; - how many words each row had. The words themselves are not stored: applying a preset keeps the text of the group you apply it to. ## Save a finished group 1. Put the playhead on the group you like. 2. Layout → Premade Layout → type a name → Save from group. 3. Tick Export preview to render a small preview next to the preset, so you can recognise it in the catalog (Local). ## Apply it to another group 1. Put the playhead on the next group. 2. Pick the preset and check which row each word goes to. 3. Apply — with Apply with animation on, each word gets the saved composition of its place. 4. Adjust Gap, Size and Offset per row, or drag words on the small picture. 5. Undo brings the group back exactly as it was. ## Tips - Save presets per format: one for 9:16 talking heads, one for 16:9 interviews. - Presets are small .json files — keep them in a shared folder so the whole team uses the same looks. Details: Premade layouts documentation (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/). --- # Change the font, size or colour of many Text+ clips at once URL: https://roklim.com/guides/change-font-size-many-text-plus-clips-davinci-resolve/ How to change the font, size, colour and spacing of many Text+ caption clips at once in DaVinci Resolve — and keep every word in its place. You finished the captions for a video — two hundred Text+ clips — and the client wants another font. Or the text is a bit too small everywhere. In DaVinci Resolve each Text+ clip keeps its own settings in its own Fusion composition, so a change like that means opening clip after clip. And with word-by-word captions it is worse: a new font or size changes the width of every word, so the rows no longer fit and the words collide. ROKLIM's Layout → Text Settings changes a whole range of clips at once — and re-flows the words so the layout still fits. ## What you can change for a whole range - Font and style — with Change Font: every word switches font and stays in its place; sizes are fitted so the look stays the same. - Colour of the text. - Size — one size for everything, or Resize by an amount or a factor. Rows re-flow and re-stack so nothing overlaps. - Line gap — the space between the rows of every group. - Word gap — the space between the words of every row. - Centre — centre each row of every group horizontally. - Pan and Tilt — shift all clips up, down or sideways. - Anchor of the text. Groups are always changed whole, so half a phrase never moves on its own. ## Which clips - A time range: in Resolve press I and O around the part you want — ROKLIM reads the marks by itself. - Or Selected clips only: select the clips on the timeline. - Text tracks: the video tracks your Text+ clips are on. ## Step by step: a new font for the whole video 1. Open ROKLIM → Layout → Text Settings. 2. Pick the new font and style. 3. Set the time range (or select the clips). 4. Press Change Font. It measures the words in the new font from the render, so every word keeps its place. 5. If you will lay out more subtitles in this font later, also run Auto-measure once (playback resolution Full; ROKLIM puts a Text+ from the Media Pool on the timeline for it and removes it after) — Layout uses it for new words. ## Step by step: everything a bit bigger 1. Text Settings → Update Existing. 2. Tick Resize, choose *add* (for example +0.01) or *multiply* (for example 1.1). 3. Optional: tick Line gap or Word gap to set the spacing at the same time. 4. Run it. Each row grows from its first word, the rows below move down so they do not overlap. Running the opposite resize brings the layout back to where it was. ## Good to know - These tools work on Text+ clips that ROKLIM laid out, and on your own Text+ clips too — they read the real position and size of every word from the render. - For a single word, the Inspector in Resolve is still the fastest. - To copy a whole *look* from one finished group to others — sizes, colours and animation — use Premade layouts (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/). More: Layout documentation (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/#changing-words-that-are-already-laid-out). --- # An alternative to Fusion caption templates URL: https://roklim.com/guides/alternative-to-fusion-caption-templates-davinci-resolve/ Caption templates are quick but hard to adjust word by word. How ROKLIM builds animated captions from ordinary Text+ clips instead, and when that helps. Caption templates and plugins — Magic Subtitles, Snap Captions, the animated subtitle presets built into Resolve 20 — are the quickest way to get moving captions: pick a style, apply it, done. They are the right choice for many videos. This page is about the cases where they get in the way, and what ROKLIM does differently. ## Where templates get in the way - One word needs to be different. Bigger, a different colour, moved off a face, its own animation. A template decides the look for the whole line or track; going beyond its options means fighting it. - The layout is part of the design. Words stacked in rows of different sizes, placed around the speaker — not a line of text at the bottom. - Late changes. A new font or a bigger size for the whole video, after everything is placed. - A consistent series. Thirty videos for one client with exactly the same look. ## What ROKLIM does instead Every word is an ordinary Text+ clip on your timeline — the same kind of clip you would make by hand. ROKLIM only automates making and arranging them: - Layout (https://roklim.com/docs/layout/) turns the subtitles into one clip per word, in groups and rows that fit the zone you choose, and colours the rows. - Animation (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/) puts a Fusion .setting macro on each clip by its colour — ROKLIM's presets or your own macros. - Font, size and spacing changes are done for the whole range at once and the words re-flow (how (https://roklim.com/guides/change-font-size-many-text-plus-clips-davinci-resolve/)). - A finished group can be saved as a Premade layout (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/) and applied to any other group. ROKLIM is a separate app. It installs no Fusion templates and no plugins into Resolve, and talks to Resolve through its scripting API. The result on the timeline stays ordinary clips that anyone can open and edit in Resolve, with or without ROKLIM. ## What stays the same - The animation is still Fusion — a macro inside each Text+ clip. ROKLIM places it for you; it does not replace Fusion. - You need subtitles first: ROKLIM makes them from the audio, or use Resolve Studio's *Create Subtitles from Audio* or any SRT. ## When a template is still the better choice - A simple caption style you never adjust word by word. A side-by-side overview of the tools: ROKLIM compared with other caption tools (https://roklim.com/compare/). --- # Animate titles and lower thirds by clip colour URL: https://roklim.com/guides/animate-titles-lower-thirds-by-colour-davinci-resolve/ Batch-animate Text+ titles, lower thirds and callouts in DaVinci Resolve: give clips a colour, pick a Fusion macro per colour, apply to all of them at once. Animation in ROKLIM is not only for captions. The Animations module puts a Fusion animation on *any* Text+ clip — titles, name plates, lower thirds, callouts — chosen by the clip's colour. Colour the clips once, and every clip of a colour gets the same animation in one run. ## Step by step 1. In Resolve give your Text+ clips colours: right-click a clip → Clip Color. For example orange for titles, teal for name plates. 2. Open ROKLIM → Animations. 3. Each row is a colour and its animation — a Fusion .setting file. Web opens free ROKLIM animations with previews; … picks your own file; + Add color adds a row. 4. Set the video tracks your Text+ clips are on, and the time range (ROKLIM reads the I and O marks from Resolve by itself) — or tick Selected clips only. 5. Press RUN. Every Text+ clip of that colour in the range now has that animation. CLEAR ANIMATIONS takes them off again. ## Useful options - Fit animation to clip length — squeezes animations that are longer than a share of the clip, so a long intro never outlasts a short title. - ADD ANIMATION — adds a second animation on top (for example an intro, then an exit), with a choice of Start, Center or End of the clip. - EDIT ANIMATION — change animations that are already on the clips right on the DaVinci viewer: drag the points of the path, move and stretch the timing, change their colours and settings. - Your own animations — any .setting file works: build an animation once in Fusion, save it with Save as Macro (under ADVANCED USER), and reuse it on every project. ## Sound and effects with it - SFX (https://roklim.com/docs/sfx/) can put a sound on every clip of a colour — a whoosh under each title. - VFX (https://roklim.com/docs/vfx/) places effects at timeline markers, for example a flash or a zoom when a title appears. More: Animation documentation (https://roklim.com/docs/animation/). --- # ROKLIM compared with other caption tools for DaVinci Resolve URL: https://roklim.com/compare/ How ROKLIM compares with Resolve's built-in animated subtitles, Snap Captions, MagicSubtitles and AutoSubs — and when to use them together. There are several ways to get animated captions in DaVinci Resolve, and they solve different parts of the job. Some transcribe speech, some animate a caption track with a template, and ROKLIM lays out and animates every word as its own clip and adds sound and effects. This page explains the difference so you can pick — or combine — the right tools. > Facts about other products are taken from their own pages and were checked in September 2026. Features and prices change; check their sites before you decide. ## At a glance | | What it does | What lands on the timeline | Speech recognition | |---|---|---|---| | ROKLIM | Subtitles from audio, layout, animation, sound effects and VFX for captions | One Text+ clip per word, laid out in groups and rows | Yes — subtitles from audio on your computer, or any subtitle track or SRT | | Resolve animated subtitles (built in, Resolve 20+) | Animates the subtitle track with a preset | The subtitle track, styled with one of five presets | Yes — Create Subtitles from Audio (Studio) | | Snap Captions 2 (plugin, Studio 19.1+) | Word-by-word animated captions from templates | Captions built from its templates | Uses Resolve Studio's transcription | | MagicSubtitles PRO (Studio 20+) | Animated subtitles for social video | A single Text+ title driven by keyframes | Uses Resolve Studio's transcription | | AutoSubs (free, open source) | Local speech-to-text, styled captions | Styled captions from its caption macro | Yes, on your computer | ## The real difference: templates vs. one clip per word Template tools — Resolve's built-in animated subtitles, caption plugins — are the fastest way to get *moving* captions: pick a style, apply it, done. The trade-off is control: the look comes from the template, so going beyond what it offers — one particular word much bigger, a row moved off a face, the punchline with its own animation — usually means fighting it. ROKLIM takes the opposite approach: every word becomes a separate Text+ clip on the Edit page. - Words are laid out, not just animated: groups of words that fit a zone you choose, rows that fill the width, the biggest size that fits, a key row per group. - Animation is chosen per word — by clip colour, by the word itself, or by hand — from any Fusion .setting macro, including your own. - Every word stays editable: fix a typo or a timing and the rest of the layout stays; change the font, resize, re-space or re-centre a whole range and the words re-flow. - Sound effects and VFX come from the same timeline: pops under key words, effects at markers. - ROKLIM installs no Fusion templates into Resolve; it runs as a separate app and drives Resolve through its scripting API. ## Speech recognition: built in, or use Resolve’s own ROKLIM makes word-by-word subtitles from the timeline audio itself, on your computer — this is how it works in the free DaVinci Resolve, which has no Create Subtitles from Audio. In Resolve Studio you can also use Resolve’s own transcription. The usual workflow is: 1. Transcribe with ROKLIM (Layout → Create subtitles), with Resolve Studio's *Create Subtitles from Audio*, or import an SRT from any tool, including AutoSubs. 2. Fix the text. 3. ROKLIM for layout, animation, sound and effects. So a separate transcription tool is optional: use ROKLIM’s own or the one you already have. ## Side by side, tool by tool - A Snap Captions alternative (https://roklim.com/compare/snap-captions-alternative/) - A MagicSubtitles alternative (https://roklim.com/compare/magicsubtitles-alternative/) - AutoSubs and ROKLIM (https://roklim.com/compare/autosubs-and-roklim/) ## When another tool is the better fit - You want one standard style on simple captions and never adjust single words → Resolve's built-in animated subtitles may be all you need. ## When ROKLIM is the better fit - Talking-head and short-form content where captions are part of the design: key words big, rows placed around the face, different motion per row. - You deliver many videos and want the same look every time — Premade layouts (https://roklim.com/docs/premade-layouts/) and profiles keep it. - You want sound and effects timed to the words without placing them by hand. ## Price ROKLIM: $100 lifetime or $40 per month, plus a 7-day free trial without a card; one key, up to 2 computers. How they differ and how to use them together. AutoSubs is a free, open-source app that turns speech into subtitles on your own computer. ROKLIM turns subtitles into animated word-by-word captions — and can make the subtitles too. They overlap in one step and work well together. > Facts about AutoSubs come from its own page, github.com/tmoroney/auto-subs (https://github.com/tmoroney/auto-subs), checked in September 2026. ## At a glance | | AutoSubs | ROKLIM | |---|---|---| | Main job | Speech to subtitles | Subtitles to animated word-by-word captions | | DaVinci Resolve | Free or Studio (not the Mac App Store version) | Free, or Studio 19.1 or newer | | Speech to text | Yes — several local models, many languages, speaker labels | Yes — its own, on your computer; or any subtitle track or SRT | | On the timeline | Subtitles, optionally styled | One Text+ clip per word, in groups and rows, then animation, sounds and effects | | Systems | Windows, macOS, Linux | Windows | | Price | Free, open source | 7-day free trial, no card; $40/month or $100 lifetime | ## What AutoSubs does well - Free and open source, runs fully on your computer. - A choice of speech models, many languages and speaker labels. - Works on Windows, macOS and Linux, and also with Premiere Pro and After Effects. ## Where ROKLIM is different ROKLIM starts where subtitles end: - Layout: every word becomes its own Text+ clip, grouped and sized to fit the part of the frame you choose, rows coloured for the next steps. - Animation: Fusion macros by clip colour, by word or by hand. - Sound and effects: sounds under words, effects at timeline markers. - Later edits: Change Font and Resize re-flow a whole range and keep every word in place. ## Use them together 1.
