Snap Captions 2 is a popular plugin for word-by-word captions in DaVinci Resolve. If it does what you need, keep it. This page is for the cases where you need something else: the free Resolve, words you can edit one by one, or sound and effects in the same pass.
Facts about Snap Captions come from its own page, orsonlord.com/snap-captions, checked in September 2026. Check it for the current price and features.

What Snap Captions does well
- Fast to a finished look: pick a template and generate the captions.
- Word highlighting, phrasing and grouping controls, and a live preview before it generates.
- A free version for the basics.
Where ROKLIM is different
- Works in the free DaVinci Resolve. Snap Captions needs Resolve Studio.
- Makes the subtitles itself from the timeline audio — the free Resolve has no transcription of its own.
- Every word is its own Text+ clip. Change one word's text, size, place or animation without touching the rest; Change Font and Resize re-flow a whole range and keep every word in place.
- Any animation, no templates. Fusion macros by clip colour or by word — ROKLIM's free ones or your own. ROKLIM installs no Fusion templates into Resolve.
- Sound and effects in the same workflow: SFX puts sounds under the words, VFX places effects at markers.
When Snap Captions is the better pick
- You like one of its templates and never adjust single words.
